You can never get enough of the famous Foh San Dim Sum

The ever famous Foh San dim sum is a famous haunt by tourists for some scrumptious and variety of dim sum. It is so famous that it had become a landmark for outstation people, like Lou Wong Taugeh Chicken is behind Foh San, Funny Mountain taufufah is opposite Foh San.

A little advise here, go as early as 7 am or as late as 11 am because it is hard to get a table here. Bring ur bill to the cart and take your own dim sum as the waitress will be too busy to entertain you. The best is going there early in the Sunday morning as they have some special items that are only available on Sunday.

Foh San is the best place with some nostalgic feel. It's great to come here with a big gang of eater because you can try out more varieties this way. However if there's only a few of you try their Har Gao (you'll be amazed by the amount of prawns found beneath the crystal clear skin), Char siu bao (how nice izzit? they have frozen version of char siu bao sold at major supermarkets), egg tarts (people from outstation often buy the egg tarts in batch as souvenirs).

I know this place

I know this place cause I am from Ipoh but i seldom go there because it 's very hard to find a table for my family. My grandfather likes to go there but we need to be there before 7am in order to get a place. Did u see an old man always sitting some way beside the corridor? He is the founder for Foh San as my grandfather told me.

I think the best dish will be thier Char siu bao... What do u think?

I been to Foh Sam too

Well, i been there once on my visit to Ipoh last time. I like this place because they offer a lot more varieties then else where. If you plan going over there, you should listen to kampungboycitygal and fishball advise because it is really hard to get a table there.

kampungboycitygal, do you know the name of the dim sum above the egg tarts picture. It looks pretty good, i wonder how it tastes?

I will go and try one day!

well, i never eat there before, but, just from the crowded picture and suggested time, can tell that this is another HOT spot for dim sum in Ipoh. Also, from the pictures of dim sum, i believed they are great! so, i will go there and try next time i go back to Perak. By the way, what is the price range?

Before this, the hot spot for dim sum in Ipoh that i know is Meng Kok and Fook Moon Lao. Was the place better than this two?

I know Fook Moon Lao

I never been to this place before, but I did been to Fook Moon Lao some time back. Its also another crowded place. Just as biscuit asked, how is this Foh San compared to Fook Moon Lao?

Reply

fishball: hie there..haha..u shud go there during weekdays as its not that packed..i can only see a woman sitting behind the counter and she might be the lao ban liang

fried tomato: hie..its called marmite pork ribs..its only a/v on sunday and trust me they taste good!

biscuit: somes tat ming court is better than foh san and some says no..it depeneds actuallt..the price ranges from rm 2 to rm 4..quite reasonable

coolfire: in terms of variety foh san wins..and every dim sum place has their own specialty so i cant say which is better..like ming court is famous for fishball n taro puff..foh san is famous for cha siu bao n egg tarts

Marmite pork ribs, first time hear of it

This is my first time heard of this dim sum, i don't think this is available else where. I bet ipoh'ian like fishball also do not aware of this. Heheh

Foh San da best..

Go to Foh San at 7am or 8.30am best... later than that and you won't have that much variety compared to the early birds. Another fav. of mine beside char siew pao, har kaw, egg tart.. is "salad yau jau kwai!"

First and the last

So much has been said about Foh San, and out of my makan curiousity, I went there last Sunday.

While waiting for a table, I told my friends that the appearance of the dim sum does not give me an impression that it was tasty. Anyway, We decide to wait. I'm sorry that the long wait was in vain...coz the dim sum was not good at all!! The egg tart was losy, and definitely can't beat Tong Kee, KL. The wu kok cannot fight with the ones we had just eaten at Bidor Pun Chun that morning. The siew mai & har kow are below par...I think Puchong folks can tell you that the dim sum at their neighbourhood is far better. The only consolation that day was the Big fish ball, fortunately to save Foh San's face!

How could one enjoy dim sum when there are so many "hungry vultures" surrounding you. I would not recommend this dim sum to those who really know how to enjoy dim sum. So, if you truly enjoy dim sum, I would reckon you to go elsewhere if you happen to be in Ipoh!
